Brian Watson, a self-employed cabbie of eight years, was picking up a fare on Durham Road, Gateshead, at midnight on September 28 when one of his passengers was attacked. He tried to stop the fight and he was punched to the ground by an onlooker. The 51-year-old of Swalwell, said: “I picked up two lasses and they were arguing with another two lasses. Then one came over and punched the other. “They were half out and half inside the taxi so I went over to assist my passenger as I’m obliged to do and somebody’s come over and punched us in the back of the head. “I fell and I hit my head on the pavement and I cracked my back on the curb. “This is the...
