Quiet carriages to be made permanent for customers on the Blue Mountains and South Coast train lines.

Quiet carriages will be permanent features for customers on three intercity train lines, Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian announced today. Supportive feedback from customers taking part in a trial of the quiet carriages on the Blue Mountains and South Coast lines, which ended today, has led to the decision to make them permanent. They were made permanent on the Newcastle and Central Coast Line earlier this year. Quiet carriages are the front and rear cars of eight car trains and at the rear of four car trains. Customers using a quiet carriage need to turn mobile phones to silent, move carriages to make a call or have a conversation, and keep the volume of headphones to a level where it can’t be heard by others. “The quiet carriages initiative is part of the NSW Government’s ‘Fixing the Trains’ program and has been very well received – so we want to keep them going...
