Proposal to Remove Cap on Licenses in Exeter 22/01/2015 Cab drivers in Exeter are up in arms after the Council announced their plans to open a discussion on removing the cap on hackney taxi and private hire licenses. Currently there are 66 hackney licenses and drivers in the area say this is more than adequate for the level of work available to them and feel the increase isn’t required. Discriminatory Accusations With the majority of taxi drivers in Exeter being of a different nationality, there have been comments on how it feels as thought the council is discriminating against them. Chairman of the Exeter St David’s Taxi Association, Amir Mossadeph, said: “De-restriction would be an absolute disaster and is completely unacceptable because it would destroy whole businesses.
