Kennett defends taxi industry against current reforms Posted on 30 May 2014 Former Premier Jeff Kennett, speaking on 3AW yesterday, defended his approach to taxi reforms in the 90s following strong comments by Taxi Services Commissioner, Graeme Samuel. Samuel recently criticised Kennett's lack of serious action on reform during his time as Premier. Listen to his comments here . Kennett said "Graeme is an economic rationalist. He doesn't have any understanding of the taxi industry or what he has done to the financial base of these people." "What we did with our reforms, we got the taxi industry and the drivers working for Melbourne and working for Victoria" he went on. "The taxi industry and the drivers out there are not our best promoters. Why? Sadly, because of Allan Fels' reforms and the way that Graeme Samuel is making such a mess of the thing" he concluded.
