New York City (Wednesday, June 19, 2013 ) Coalition Responds to House Judiciary Committee Passage of SAFE Act Partisan Politics Rears its Ugly Head The following is a statement from Chung-Wha Hong, executive director of the New York Immigration Coalition: "The House Republicans on the Judiciary Committee who unanimously voted the SAFE Act out of committee just don’t get it. The SAFE Act is a sorry throwback to the politics of old—that is, pre-2012 election politics; a desperate attempt by these 20 members of the committee to hold on to immigration as a wedge issue to divide the country and obstruct real immigration reform. The SAFE Act is the federal counterpart to all the failed and cruel (and unconstitutional) measures passed by states like Alabama and Arizona.
